Flachau -(Austria) Croatia's Janica Kostelic won Sunday's slalom in Flachau to equal the record of eight consecutive slalom victories, dating back to December 1989.

Kostelic, 19, won both legs on the Austrian slope to finish with a combined time of 1:35.94 minutes - a massive 1.56 seconds faster than France's Laure Pequegnot and Austrian Karin Koeller.

Kostelic, who increased her leads in the slalom and overall standings, has won all six slaloms this season, equalling the record of consecutive slaloms won in a season set by Swiss skiers Erika Hess and Vreni Schneider in the 1980s.

Combined with her two slalom titles in December 1999, Kostelic's victory evened the record of eight straight slalom titles Schneider set in the first slalom of winter 1989 after the Swiss Olympic champion had claimed all seven slaloms the previous season.
